Charities

Proceeds donated to the team of JOGLERs will be divided between a choice of extraordinarily deserving charities that touch the lives of thousands of people both in the UK and further afield. Of the total donations 50% will go to LandAid, a charitable foundation that improves the lives of young people across the UK who experience disadvantage due to their economic or social circumstances. It does this through funding buildings and giving free property advice. A further 20% of all donations will be granted to Dementia UK, a British charity dedicated to improving the quality of life of those living with dementia and similar conditions, along with the people who care for them. The remaining 30% will be apportioned between a number of charities chosen personally by the JOGLERs.

Prostate Cancer Research and Development, Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Charitable Funds

Prostate Cancer Research and Development, Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Charitable Funds

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men and the second most common cause of male cancer death in the UK. However, it is often slow growing and more men die with it (of other causes) than because of it. It may be detected early using a blood test called PSA, although sometimes this test is unreliable. It often causes no symptoms in the early stages when confined to the prostate gland itself. This is the stage at which it is curable, if indeed treatment is necessary. Unfortunately it cannot be cured when in later stages it spreads to the lymphatic system and bones. The Oxford University Hospitals Trust treat prostate cancer of all stages using the latest surgical and radiotherapy techniques. They also have an active research program with laboratory and clinical trials running to improve knowledge of this interesting and often dangerous disease.
